Mort Goldstein speaks at the Re-Wired For Life meeting

Hi! My name is Mort Goldstein. I was born and raised in New York and moved to a suburb off Minneapolis MN 23 years ago. I am rapidly approaching my 60th birthday and was first diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease some 20 years ago. In December 1990 the job related stress playing on my Parkinson's symptoms forced me to retire.

My symptoms began with a slight tremor and have grown to the full gamut: tremor, dyskinesias, freezing, rigidity, gait etc.

After years of following the progress of DBS and ultimately DBS/STN, I made the decision to undergo the procedure. The next question who is the surgeon. The Internet provided a list of sites and all roads, for me, led to Dr. Kelly. I was rewired on June 22, 2000.

As I write this piece I am still in the "tuning stage" and have just returned home. The results are as follows:

  1. Tremor and dyskinesia almost gone
  2. Gait greatly improved
  3. Rigidity gone
  4. Parkinson's mask gone

Drs. Kelly, Beric and Sterio, thanks for returning my life to me . G-d bless. Also a word of thanks to Annie for her support and to Patty for being there for morning phone calls and her kindness.
