Dr. Patrick J. Kelly receives the Olivecrona Prize--Feb. 2002
The Consul General of Sweden Olle Wastberg and Mrs. Inger Claesson Wastberg held a reception in honor of Dr. Patrick J. Kelly, the 2001 Olivecrona Medal Recipient, on Monday, February 25, 2002 in their beautiful home in Manhattan.
The Brain Tumor Foundation and the Re-Wired Foundation cosponsored the event, both founded by Dr. Kelly to benefit his patients.
The Olivecrona Medal is bestowed upon an internationally outstanding neurosurgeon in recognition of excellence and innovation. Dr. Kelly presented his paper on the revolutionary work he has done on brain mapping and was presented the medal during the Nobel Prize ceremonies in Stockholm in December 2001.
Over 100 people attended the reception and since most of the attendees were patients of Dr. Kelly, the air in the room was charged with admiration, gratitude and love for the honoree.
It was a pleasure to be among the few who could attend representing the thousand more who have benefited from this extraordinary man's surgical skills and humanity.
