Hi Rick, Yes, I do understand you. The energy output is directly related to the amplitude, and over 3.6v goes into a sort of overdrive. It was a good idea to try and conserve battery life, but if it's not working out for you, go back to the old settings and resign yourself to replacing it every couple of years. I bet your speech is even worse at that high PW. The rechargable is in the works, but this sounds like more hassle to me....you'll have to sit and recharge it every few months. We'll see how that works out. The wonderful thing about DBS is you can try some different programming concepts, and if it doesn't work out, you can go back! Tell Patty I said hi! And thanks for your kind words. Love, Roberta

I read this over again and wonder even more whether i am getting my point across. I am asking if you have any experience with people adjusting up on the pulse width and frequency rather than the voltage. I know his is a very individual issue but is it possible that I am not getting the desired effect of the stimulators because of raising the pw and freq rather than the voltage.

Roberta,
This is my fifth year with DBS and I am basicaly very happy with the results. However there some persistant problems.
Because the voltage on the regulators were over 3.6 (4.3), the batteries lasted only 2 1/2 years. I had them replaced 2 1/2 years ago. Thus in order to save the battery, the adjusters have adjusted the pulse width and fequency and kept the voltage at 3.6. I am at the max at both other setting (210) and with this last adjustment my offs have more rigidity and freezing and general discomfort. The energy output is similar but I wonder if they are so different, that is at 3.6 with higher other setting and 4.3 with lower other settings, to cause this rigidity. I hope you understand what i am asking.
